Getting Ready for the Big Time

Written by John Phillips · No Comments

The thought of starting a business sounds exciting at first glance. Many dream of own ing their own company and not having to answer to anyone. What doesn’t sound interesting about calling the shots and running things exactly the way you have always daydreamed about. I can’t lie, when I first thought about it, it seemed like the most glamorous job in the world…and then came the research.

Since we are starting this blog from the very beginning of our ’starting a business’ process, I can say that getting started is not all it’s cracked up to be. Of course, once our team was assembled, we started tossing around all of the coolest ideas of how we wanted our company to operate. After that initial excitement, it was time to get down to business.

We started off [and still are working on] our business plan. We did some research on how a business plan should be structured, and wow! This part is almost scary, because it really helps you focus on exactly what you need to know in order to run a business [marketing, finances, target market, etc.]. We had overlooked alot of the basics, and realized that we had to put serious thought into how we want to approach the market with our company, and a business plan helps you iron out the details.

Of course there is the branding, which seems like the fun part also, but again, it is lots of work. Because of the fact that this will be our lasting image, we want it to be as perfect as possible. We went through a bunch of different names, however, this was the one that stuck and fit very well. We decided to build our business model around the concept of 3(tri) which is opening up many creative ideas for logo design, which we are also in the process of designing.

What seems to make this process even more challenging, is that we each have design backgrounds, instead of business backgrounds. So most of the things we plan on learning will be from pure experience, and not from a classroom. And there’s no better way to learn than to be in the real world. As long as we are always pushing ourselves to learn, and adapting to a changing environment, we will be ready for all of the challenges that will come our way.

We hope you will stick with us in our journey to becoming an official company, and from there on.
